Elysian Tea House might be a little tricky to find, but once you get there you’ll be rewarded with an amazing range of lose teas, blended in-house, and pastries and patisseries. Located on Sukhumvit 49/1, it’s a little too far to walk, but there are plenty of taxis and motorbikes in the area.

The tea shop is open every day from 9am except Mondays. You enter via an indoor jungle, leafy plants amongst which you can admire large canvas prints of the delicious cakes and macarons that are waiting just beyond the double doors. Straight ahead you’ll spot the kitchen and ordering counter. Head up the flower covered stairs and you will find two different lounges. As you might have spotted from the lattice windows upstairs, the first has a Moroccan theme, but if you head up the next flight it’s more European, with Louis XIV pastel covered chairs and a view out onto the small terrace which is surrounded by plants and flowers.

Picking the tea is the hardest decision that you will have to make whilst at Elysian Tea House. In an attempt to make it easier there is not only a comprehensive tea menu, but glass vials of the loose leaves that you can sniff to make sure you pick the right one. There are both black and green tea blends with scents such as vanilla, lavender and rose. There are also tea lattes and refreshing chilled teas, including the cafés own version of Thai milk iced tea. If you have a sweet tooth, it’s worth ordering one of the sets on offer, the largest of which comes with a biscuit, cake, tarte, mousse and verrine as well as a pot of house blend tea for only 250 baht. Another option at the same price is the tea and macaron set, which includes 4 different flavours of the French favourite.

Of course, some people would rather just enjoy a large pastry all to themselves, and there are plenty of options here too. The pain au chocolats are some of the best we’ve tasted in the city, and that’s coming from people who’ve spent a lot of time in France. The chef actually spent time in Paris, and before coming to Elysian was a tutor for Cordon Bleu cookery school in Bangkok, which requires a high level of precision and technique. Ingredients for the pastries, including butter and flour are imported from France, and the combination of skill and flavour means that when you close your eyes you could easily be on the Left Bank.

Despite an out of the way location, this tea house has charm and tasty cakes by the bucketful. It’s worth wondering off the beaten track to enjoy a lazy hour or so at Elysian.
