House Of Museums
The House of Museums is nothing like a national museum or some majestic building full of dusty potteries. It's very humble and a lot more fun! None of the objects on display have any financial or historical value but many of them will mean a lot to visitors.
The House of Museums is a private collection of thousands of daily objects and goods dating from the sixties onward, displayed in what appears to be a nicely converted shop house. The place is hidden in a very remote location between Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom and it would be hard to find it without any knowledge of the area, or car navigation.
The museum is popular though; opened only on weekends and the incessant ballets of cars coming in and out are surprising considering the location. Thailand’s young generation from Bangkok love to visit these kinds of fun venues at the weekend and every single visitor seems to be on a photographic mission. The building is divided into distinct collections dispatched over three floors, one room for each type of goods. The toy room is cute and colourful and depending on your age you will certainly recognize many of them. Some forgotten ones will probably revive some sweet memories. Next to it is the dentist room with its old scary looking chair and a set of torture tools. This will not bring back any good memories.
An old-fashioned pharmacy displays fun medicine with their kitsch and sometimes laughable packaging from the sixties, but strangely some of the drugs found here are still on sale today. The curator appears to be very flexible and hasn’t limited himself to objects from the past. The candy corner is fun and very colorful, but the goods only look old, you can actually buy them!
