Moko
MOKO is a restaurant which proposes a delicious Mediterranean cuisine.
The brains behind art spaces such as the new Kult Gallery on Pan Road (just off Silom), Martine Pailloux, has teamed up with Italian Chef Marco Rosato to create this deli/Mediterranean restaurant that offers up an intriguing gallery-like vibe and hearty breakfast dishes.
Dining here is like sitting in a cool gallery thanks to the regularly rotating artworks and lighting set up as to accentuate the art. The well-designed venue has a simple, clean and warm vibe topped off by tasteful dark wood retro furniture. Completing the scene are a sizeable open kitchen, a marble counter at the front, plus some seating out on the terrace for diners to take advantage of the quiet, tree-lined soi.
Having previously worked in a few French restaurants in Paris, Chef Rosato whips up simple dishes with Mediterranean touches. There’s also a consistent focus on colorful presentation, which comes courtesy of fresh seasonal produce from the Royal Projects. The brief menu only features about 10 dishes for serious dining, including grilled eggplant, bell pepper and zucchini with scamoza cheese (280 THB) and the very flavorful spicy seabass tartare with pomegranate, parsley and red pepper (330 THB). Another simple but satisfying option is the plate of parma and Iberico hams with rocket and cherry tomatoes (400 THB), best enjoyed with a glass of wine. Moko’s location near residential and office areas makes it quite handy to swing by for breakfast, which includes classics like eggs benedict (280 THB) or the hearty offering of eggs, bacon, sausage, fried potatoes, orange juice and coffee (350 THB). You don’t have to stick to the tried and tested, though, with special dishes regularly lining the blackboard like chicken with lemon served with fried potatoes (320 THB).
You can also soak up the atmosphere with their brief list of wine by the glass (180 THB) or classic cocktails (200 THB). They serve up Harney & Sons tea (90 THB) and Illy and Nespresso coffee (from 80 THB). As for something refreshing, try the smoothies like the Exotic (mango, papaya, passion fruit and kiwi, 120 THB) or opt for some fruit juice (80-150 THB) or a milkshake (90-120 THB).
Expats who come for the terrace vibe and those clamoring to try the newest brunch spot in town.
